The original endowment of the Foundation was provided by Human Service Alliance (HSA). The original $1 million endowment was the result of careful management of resources, the fact that HSA has never had paid staff or stipends, and the more than one million hours of service provided by the volunteers over the past 20 years. Additional gifts and bequests have helped to grow the endowment.
What are the main criteria to be eligible for a grant from FPL? The Foundation focuses its giving to grassroots, hands-on, all-volunteer organizations with projects exemplifying effective group service. Occasionally the Foundation supports group endeavors that have a large volunteer base, minimal paid staff and can demonstrate an outstanding ability to manage resources.
Why is the main focus on supporting primarily all-volunteer endeavors? We have, through our own experience, determined the many benefits of the all-volunteer approach to service. It is our effort to support other groups interested in demonstrating this unique approach to solving community problems.
How can I contribute to the Foundation endowment? Call us at 336-761-8745 and ask to speak with a Foundation representative.
Who decides about the distribution of money? The Foundation has an all-volunteer staff that handles requests.
What is different about FPL than other foundations? The Foundation can provide additional support to interested organizations beyond or instead of any monetary gifts. The Foundation offers training in the growth and management of all-volunteer group service work free of charge.
